Jim McKenna, 33, and John Lieberman, 31, a couple of San Francisco-area techies, launched the “NoMoreAOLCDs.com grassroots campaign to “stop the needless pollution of the environment due to the distribution of unwanted materials.” Their mission: Collect a million of the promotional CDs that America Online (AOL) regularly mails to consumers, and deposit them at the doorstep of AOL Time Warner headquarters. The Community Waste Prevention Toolkit is a new, interactive, online resource, designed to help users implement cost-effective waste reduction programs. The toolkit was developed by INFORM (New York) and is available at www.informinc.org. (Resource Recycling, January 2002)

Tom Watson's National Waste Prevention Forum points us to a very useful Web site that includes comprehensive information on waste prevention and recycling strategies, waste composition graphs for the different business sectors, a “Trends to Watch” section and links to other websites — first seen in Roger Guttentag's "Recycling in Cyberspace" column in Resource Recycling magazine, Wastesaver.com is a privately-owned online service based in New York City that links businesses with recycling and garbage haulers.
