BRING was founded in 1971 to teach our community to recycle. Today, recycling is a core value in our community, practiced by 95% of households. More people in Lane County recycle than vote! • Per capita waste has increased 43% in the same period. • In 2005, we failed to meet the statewide goal for waste reduction. • Much of the increased waste is construction debris much of which is reusable. • Waste contributes to global warming, pollution, and the soaring costs of energy, housing and health care. It’s time to rethink our use of resources! The new Planet Improvement Center will help our community reduce waste and reuse materials BEFORE they become waste. It encourages people to repair, remodel and renovate by providing: • low-cost used building materials • hands-on learning
• art and gardens to educate and inspire Model of Sustainable Practices The Planet Improvement Center is a model facility that: • Demonstrates sustainable practices in action • Provides affordable materials for reuse and sustainable building • Helps keep housing affordable and in good repair • Helps sustain low-income people, farms, cottage industries & artists
• Creates jobs • Stimulates a sustainable economy • Supports revitalization of Glenwood and our urban core How you can help copyright© 2005-2007 BRING Recycling. All rights reserved. |
