Why build the Planet Improvement Center?

BRING was founded in 1971 to teach our community to recycle. Today, recycling is a core value in our community, practiced by 95% of households. More people in Lane County recycle than vote!

Unfortunately, recycling alone is not enough. We’re throwing away more valuable resources than ever before — threatening the quality of life for ourselves and future generations.

• Oregon’s waste generation (garbage plus recycling) has increased 70% since 1993.
• Per capita waste has increased 43% in the same period.
• In 2005, we failed to meet the statewide goal for waste reduction.
• Much of the increased waste is construction debris — much of which is reusable.
• Waste contributes to global warming, pollution, and the soaring costs of energy, housing and health care.

It’s time to rethink our use of resources!

The new Planet Improvement Center will help our community reduce waste and reuse materials BEFORE they become waste. It encourages people to repair, remodel and renovate by providing:
• low-cost used building materials
• hands-on learning
“BRING is such a valuable community resource. I go there all the time to find unique, used building materials for my remodels.”
—Hugh Prichard
