At BRING, volunteers really do make the world go ’round. Or most specifically, the materials they help to collect, teach about, or sort out. Go round and round because of their efforts. But even more than that, volunteers give us hope, a leg up and a warm feeling. From all of us at BRING we thank you.

The Home ReDesign Studio
A business specializing in old, new and redo opened its doors April 1, 2003, at 949 Pearl Street. It’s a fun place for junk lovers, bargain hunters, do-it-yourselfers and shabby chic shoppers. Some items are ready to go, others are in progress and the rest are waiting for you to take home and overhaul.
Each day an artist, designer or decorator is there to help you make a selection, give advice or decorating hints. By painting, sewing, repairing or rearranging, the artist of the day prepares items such as small decor, garden decor and furniture for sale. Ambience is causal, prices are low and each piece is original.
Visit often because things change fast. Not just the inventory, even the walls! Each month a faux finish is added to the walls in anticipation of painting classes and for the monthly artwalk tour. The ReDesign Studio is looking for more artists to be there on Monday and Tuesday. Artists, who want to paint, repair, redesign and prepare items for the shop and can maintain a reliable schedule should contact Su Carey at 541-547-4151.
Store hours are variable. Call 345-5470, or ring the doorbell, you never know! They are generally open in the lunch hour, and Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm.

Science Factory Summer Camp Features Reuse

The Science Factory Hands-on Children's Museum will be offering middle school summer camps that teach reuse and recycling concepts: “Junkyard Journeys” and “Car Physics.” Junkyard Journeys consists of treasure hunting through junkyards for items to use in imaginative, fantastic inventions designed by campers and counselors. Car Physics campers will also visit local car dealers to test drive electric and bio-diesel vehicles.
The Science Factory has over 55 weekly camps starting June 23 and continuing through August 29. The full schedule of summer camps, membership information and others events and programs can be downloaded from the Web at www.sciencefactory.org or call 682-7888.
Compost Tea Happens
Compost is nothing new to Lane County residents, many of whom routinely separate their yard trimmings for curbside collection or to compost in their own backyard. They are aware of the many benefits of compost, and how best to incorporate it into their gardens and landscapes.
Something that is fairly new on the scene for Lane County residents is compost tea—essentially a liquid version of compost with comparable benefits. A unique feature of compost tea is that it can be easily and economically applied over large areas with watering cans, backpack sprayers or existing irrigation systems. Homeowners, organic farmers, orchardists, landscapers and others are all finding benefits by using compost tea regularly during peak growing periods applied to the soil, the foliage, or both. Compost tea contains a rich mixture of beneficial microorganisms, micronutrients, and other organic compounds that work together to revitalize the soil’s natural biological processes. A healthy functioning soil ecosystem requires less synthetic input to resist pests and diseases.
A Eugene company is helping to spread the word and advance the use of compost tea. Growing Solutions, Inc. at 160 Madison St. has been manufacturing and distributing compost tea systems and related products for sustainable agriculture since 1997. They currently offer aerated compost tea systems that produce 25, 100 and 500 gallons of respectively, and have placed these systems all over the world.
There are now 5 locations in Eugene and Springfield to buy fresh compost tea made with Growing Solutions, Inc. tea systems. Prices and days of tea availability vary, so check with the location first:

Down to Earth – Eugene (Downtown)
     Johnson Brothers – Coburg
     Lane Forest Products – Eugene
Little Red Farm Nursery – Springfield
     Rexius – Eugene
