9. A Family Homestead: Remodeled House and Garden
A gem of creative re-use, do-it-yourself ingenuity, and funky urban homesteading hides in plain sight in north Springfield. This remodeled 1940s bungalow teems with artfully re-used practical finds from BRING and elsewhere. A kitchen re-make features owner-built concrete counters discreetly inlaid with tiny keepsakes. Outside, a venerable silver maple tree takes center stage in a sprawling garden with ample space for entertaining, playing, and producing a family bounty.
