7. The Standard for Community: Sustainable, Multi-Family Housing
Cornerstone Community Housing’s Willakenzie Crossing, a cluster of seven Craftsman-style buildings, meets Earth Advantage Platinum standards. Each eight-unit building includes studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. All units feature Energy Star appliances and fixtures, low VOC finishes, and covered patios or balconies. Other amenities include a LEED Silver-certified community center, a playground, bicycle storage, a community garden, and lush, low-water landscape. The complex serves low-income households and neighbors with developmental disabilities. In addition, Cornerstone connects residents with programs focused on job skills training, career counseling, food and nutrition programs, constructive youth activities, home ownership education, credit counseling, and community-building events.
