5. Old World Charm

5. Old World Charm

985 Tiara Street

The first permitted straw bale home built in Eugene combines Old World building techniques with 21st century sustainable technologies. The stained concrete floors, thick plastered walls, and high ceilings and windows create a light-filled yet cozy living space, accented with hand-crafted tiles and metal work. An adjacent guest/retreat space shares the backyard garden, which features a low-water landscape with native plants, ornamentals, a brand-new chicken run, and seasonal food production.

Highlights:

  • Solar hot water
  • Radiant floor heating
  • Heat recovery ventilation
  • Low-water landscaping
  • Vegetative swale to treat storm water
  • Chicken coop
*Please do not visit the sites before 10 a.m. on Sunday.
