5. Family In-Fill: Backyard Cottage, Shared Gardens
It took some convincing for this Eugene mom to build a small house behind her daughter’s home in the River Road neighborhood. Not only would she be leaving the home she lived in for 33 years, she worried about potentially cramping her daughter’s style. Flash forward to a fruitful union that has turned her daughter’s single-family property into a family-friendly compound. This 585 square-foot Secondary Dwelling Unit (SDU) is not only a full-fledged house for mom, featuring sewing space, full-size kitchen, and an ADA-accessible bathroom; it’s also a great guest house for visiting family members.
