BRING Gallery presents “Knock on Wood,” an exhibit of local artisans’ fine handcrafted furniture and decorative sculptures made from salvaged and discarded wood.

The show runs from January 29 to March 31, 2010. The public is invited to attend an opening reception, hosted in part by Brenner’s Green Gallery, on Saturday, January 30, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Guests will be treated to live music, beverages by Oakshire Breweries, and appetizers provided by Baker’s Dozen.

In addition to hand-crafted furniture, lighting fixtures, and sculpted pieces, Knock on Wood will feature examples of flooring, countertops, beams and other pieces milled from the urban forest. Information on where to recycle wood and the role trees play in a healthy ecosystem will be available. Visitors will also find weekend specials on select wood items at BRING.

Collaborating on the show are Urban Lumber, a company that salvages urban trees for lumber, and the Splinters woodworking group. The exhibit includes fine furniture pieces by Seth San Filippo; bookcases by Dave Schultz; tables and art pieces by Jeremiah Polynone; wood sculptures by Jocelyne and Mike Shiner; and a variety of works by Tim Boyden, Deb Bulcao, Heather and Rick Hinton, Tony Walters, and Craig Windom.

In conjunction with the exhibit, a portable sawmill demonstration will take place at BRING on Saturday, February 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a tour of Urban Lumber in Springfield.

The BRING Gallery is located inside the entrance to our used building materials store. BRING is open seven days a week. Please call (541) 746-3023 for more information.

Ongoing Call For Proposals
BRING Gallery also accepts proposals for group and solo exhibits. We are looking for artists who are working with recycled and/or natural materials, and/or address environmental/sustainability issues in their
art. Please submit a short statement, artist resume and work samples to gallery@bringrecycling.org for consideration.
