Salvaging Building Materials
Deconstruction provides an environmentally preferable alternative to traditional demolition. When a building is deconstructed, usable items are removed carefully in order to salvage as many as possible for reuse. Deconstruction is the first step in most remodeling projects.

Deconstruction conserves resources. Not only are the raw materials saved, but all the energy it took to manufacture them in the first place. Materials typically recovered include lumber, doors, windows, cabinetry, flooring, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, hardware and wiring. Older buildings often contain old growth lumber of very high quality that is hard to buy today.

Salvaged materials brought to us by contractors and homeowners are sold to the public through BRING’s Warehouse. We will pick up large quantities of materials from your site. We encourage anyone considering a remodel or a demolition to talk to their contractor about salvage. Many contractors routinely salvage, others are unaware of the benefits to the homeowner or the environment. Some contractors do not realize just how many materials have a reuse potential, for example, an old set of kitchen cabinets might not work in another kitchen, but could be just the ticket out in a shed or in the garage. A used hollow core door in good condition might become a desk top, or a room divider. A window that doesn’t meet today’s building codes could be cold-frame or greenhouse material.

Materials donated to BRING are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Why pay to throw away something that could save you money?
